This week we are introducing a new section we want to call What’s Happening. As much as we are spiritual beings we live in a physical world and as such cannot isolate ourselves from the things that go on around us- unless you want to hide yourself in a hole. These occurrences about and around us can have an effect on our Christian lives and as such we feel the need to maybe highlight some of these ongoing topics and analyze them using Biblical and Holy Spirit inspired words. We hope that you will be encouraged no matter what circumstances you may find yourself. So for today we want to look at the topic where is the world headed?
Not quite an easy question to find an answer to. Take for instance the hate crimes that is constantly going on all around the world and easily fueling violent riots and protests. The black communities within the western world are of the belief that there is a heightened racial profiling against them and as such most of them take the law into their own hands and start-up violent riots against those who are supposed to be upholding the law but end up perpetuating these crimes.
There is the issue of increased natural disasters in all parts of the world. Talk about earthquakes sending people to their early graves or the tsunamis that can cause people to be drowned in their sleep. Then the volcanic actions and eruptions going on around the globe that displaces people from their homes. Then comes the hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones that destroy everything that lies in their way and leaves areas flooded and uninhabitable for some period of time. The recent of these was in Haiti, and our social media was sure to show the horrific pictures that followed leaving a number of people dead and others without homes.
Each day on our news we see the horrors of wars and terrorist attacks on innocent lives. The kind that can get your stomach to churn and hurt. Power hungry leaders and governments at each other’s throat just to show who is boss only for that family in their small abode to feel the effects. Some fundamentalists attempting to annihilate another group of people for the purpose of religion and blowing themselves up in their wake.
The biggest question is, where is God in all this? I read a piece from a source I cannot pinpoint some time back but this was what I drew from it and would explain it using a scenario. Assume you are a programmer and you decide to create a program such that the individuals within the program are at will to choose whatever they want and you presented them with guidelines for surviving. As the creator of the program you will only step in when the individuals in there ask for help and they are very much aware of your presence. Now these individuals in the game decide to destroy their program environment, ignoring you and the guidelines such that it is no longer favorable to them. They now want to blame you the creator for that flaw. How would you feel?
Now God is very much aware of what goes on in the world and He only steps in when He needs to or when you ask Him to. He will not force His way in because that could tilt the very balance of things. We as human beings have gotten ourselves to this point and we have no right to blame God. Jesus tells us in mark 13:7-8
But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrow (NKJV)
And so these things are bent to happen. However there is still hope once the salts and the lights of this world remain. The earth will be preserved and given essence due to the salt and people will be drawn to God due to the light. We as Christians have a role to play in making this world a better place. We cannot keep our hands folded and sit in our corners unconcerned about how things are turning out and though we may not know where this world is headed, we have a hope that is unfailing- our God will see us through once we rely on Him.
God bless you
