Necessity Is Laid Upon Me

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35.

Jesus’ command was simple and direct, He had lived out a life of love towards his disciples and the ‘world’. He was simply telling His disciples to “CARRY ON” Right there with those words…He placed a necessity on them. He was saying, just as I didn’t care about your differences-that will include: Thomas’ knack for doubting, Peter’s rash in acting, Judas’ greed with money and just as knowledge of your weakness did not stop Me from loving you…do same. Do same because that is the only language the world will understand.

Right there- the destiny of the world that will include you and I was in the hands of this simple human fishermen group. Right there they had to forget about their selfish goals, learn the act of sacrifice, avoid petty quarrels and jealousy. They had to stop caring about ‘Who hurt me and who didn’t like me’ it simply had to end. And we have to thank God that they did-for before they could stand and radiate Christ, they had learnt the craft of praying together, eating together, sharing so freely that none considered a thing as theirs. They spoke the language of love and in so doing they spoke Christ. And just as the Lord had promised-In Antioch they were called “Christ-ians” like how we are tagged as ‘Ghana-ians’ by virtue of our location of birth, they were so called because they did and loved AS Christ had.

Now let us take a look at our current world, let us not look so far away- just focus on your workplace, your dormitory, your room in your hostel. You see that you are surrounded by a circle of Christians-we all pray, have loads of gospel songs on our phones, blurt out ‘believer’s phrases’ like: God is good, Jesus reigns, He is God alone, Church dey sweet papa…but when it comes to what really matters we are found wanting- we are filled with Jealousy and we call it competition, most of us have low self esteem because we stopped caring for others and have become selfish, we cannot have a sincere conversation and we don’t even talk Christ among ourselves to come to think of doing so with the world. Paul was not joking when He said:

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil, cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

So let us stop with this making ourselves judges of each other-let us bend the knees whenever we feel the need to judge for who are we to judge someone else’s servant. For it is before God that His servant stand or fall and He is able to make them Stand. Really let us tear down the wall of pride, fear of being hurt, envy and bitterness that we have built around us and let us walk out there and show love.

WHY? Because God has placed His last bet on us, saying, “WE ARE THE BEST CHANCE THE WORLD’S GOT”

God bless you
